Prepare Your Toy Hauler

Start by preparing your toy hauler for the road. Ideally, check your tires to ensure they are at the recommended pressure. You’ll also want to position your mirrors properly so you can see both the toy hauler and parts of the road around you. Finally, test your lights—headlights, brake lights, and turn signals—and ensure they are bright and visible.

Distribute the Weight

Remember to distribute weight evenly because improperly distributed cargo weight can increase sway risk and create a road hazard.

We often recommend that our customers follow the 60-40 rule when distributing cargo weight. Place 60% of your weight near the front, close to the tow vehicle, and the remaining 40% toward the rear. You’ll also want about 10-12% of the weight as close to the hitch as possible and evenly spread from left to right.

Load Carefully

Now, ensure your toy hauler is steady, and then start loading your motorsports vehicle. You’ll want to set the brakes and lower the gate or loading ramp at the lowest angle so you don’t have to push too hard on your powersports vehicle’s accelerator. Drive up slowly and pull in completely before setting the brake and turning off the engine.

Secure Your Vehicle

When your powersports vehicle is loaded, secure it properly to prevent it from rolling around during transit. Use your toy hauler’s D-ring tie-downs to hold your UTV, ATV, or motorcycle in place, and add more if needed.

We hope you find these tips handy when loading your powersports vehicle into your toy hauler. If you need more advice or are still searching for your dream camper, visit Baydo’s RV Center. We proudly serve Fife, Milton, and Tacoma, WA, so swing by today!
